Steppin' Out Final Performance Information + May News

This is it! We are in our last month of practice before the big day.
You may have noticed how great all the dances are looking, but it's
not over yet. Please try your best to bring your dancers to the studio
each week as our upcoming practice sessions are critical for them to
refine their steps and gain confidence to perform on stage. And don't
forget to invite your friends and family to the performance--the
performance fee covers any guests you'd like to bring. As a quick
reminder, since we have shortened the performance duration to an hour
and fifteen minutes, we do request that audience members stay for the
duration of the performance this year.

Parent Volunteers Needed + Parent Responsibilities During Performance

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:

Please help! Angela needs three parents (or more) per class to volunteer to sit in the audience with their child's class and supervise. (Note that classes with students ten years old and older do not need parent volunteers).

Responsibilities include:

Sitting in the designated area (in the audience facing the stage) with your child’s class and keeping the class together, quiet, and in their seats while they watch the show.

Take children to the restroom if needed.

Help walk the class on stage to perform, then walk the class backstage to meet with the rest of the parents to change shoes and to make costume changes if needed. Volunteers will then return to their designated seats in the audience and wait to be called for the second dance. After the second dance is over you will bring the dancers back to the designated seats in the audience and wait to be called for the final bow.

Please contact Angela if you are available to help with your child's class.

REGULAR PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

All parents are responsible for changing their own child’s shoes and costumes.

After the company bow, all dancers will be asked to sit on stage and wait for a parent to get them. You can then take pictures and congratulate your little performer!

Hair & Make Up Information

Make Up:

Students are required to wear stage makeup during the performance so they don't appear washed out by the lights on stage. Below is a helpful guide to determine how much make up your dancer should wear:

ages 2.5-5: lipstick or lip gloss and blush
ages 6-8: lipstick or lip gloss, blush, and a small amount of eye make up
ages 9-12: lipstick, blush, and eye make up
ages 13-up: lipstick, blush, eye shadow, eyeliner, and mascara

*all boys should wear blush so they don't look like ghosts on stage

Students are welcome to wear more makeup than listed for each age group. Make up can be in any color you choose.

Hair: Students must have their hair combed the day of the show. Students may wear any hairstyle they desire but should take into consideration any costume accessories such as hats or crowns when choosing a style.

Important Performance Information for Steppin' Out's Annual Performance 2015

We are so excited as we continue to progress towards the Steppin' Out
Dance Studio 2015 20th-anniversary performance in early June! This
email contains some critical information related to that progress.
Please read on and feel free to contact me with any questions.

VENUE CHANGE
Due to an unexpected scheduling conflict, this year we will perform at
Mission High School (on 18th between Dolores and Church) instead of
Everett. Though this change is unexpected, Mission High offers a
beautiful stage we think will perfectly showcase our dancers. Our
dress rehearsal and all of the performances will be at Mission High in
2015.

PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE AND DETAILS
This year we are dividing the classes into separate performance times
so that the show isn't too long for families to sit through. We
anticipate each performance to last about one hour and fifteen
minutes. We ask that all performers and audience member stay until the
end of the show to support and enjoy fellow dancers and the larger
community as well as take a company bow at the very end of the show.
This year we will NOT be selling snacks or drinks but we will have
flowers for sell as well as DVDs of each show.

Here's how the shows will break down:

All Sat. classes will be performing on Saturday, June 6th at 11:00 a.m. titled "Spotlight"

All weekday classes will be performing Sunday, June 7th at 4:00 p.m. titled "Center Stage"

All advanced dancers* will ALSO be performing on Saturday, June 6th at 4:00 p.m. titled "Encore"

*Advanced classes are as follows: Sat. 10:00-back studio class, Sat.
11:00-back studio class, Sat. 12:00 classes, Wed. 5:00 & 6:00 teens, and Thursday
5:00 young adults.

PARTICIPATION FEE DUE NOW
If you've ever been stuck in the long, long line waiting to be
admitted into the auditorium for the performance, you'll be excited to
hear that this year Steppin' Out will be introducing a new model of
funding to cover the cost of the beautiful theater and associated
performance costs. Instead of asking each audience member to buy a
ticket, we'll have a simple, modest performance "fee" per dancer that
will allow you to bring as many audience members as you'd like without
any tickets at all. The participation fee will be $25 fee per student
($10 second performing sibling, $5 third [or beyond] performing
sibling). That means all guests, family and friends get in FREE to the
performances--invite the entire family! Everyone gets in for free and
there will also be free parking in the Mission High parking lot (enter
on Dolores). The performance fee is per-student, so if you are
performing in more than one show you only pay one participation fee.
Participation fees were due on March 31st--if you have not yet paid
please do so as soon as possible. As always, if any charges present a
financial hardship, please see Angela.

DRESS REHEARSAL SCHEDULE
For the second year in a row, we are lucky to have the opportunity to
hold a dress rehearsal prior to the performance. The rehearsal will be
held on Saturday, May 30th at Mission High. Please note that there
will be no classes at the studio that day.

To determine when your child should attend dress rehearsal, please see
the following schedule (and note that your child only needs to attend
during the times listed for his/her song/s):
http://www.steppinoutsf.com/2015/04/dress-rehearsal-schedule-may-30th-2015.html
